August 29 - September 2

I am happy to say that the first week of school was a success! I could not have asked for a better group of students this year, and I am excited about spending the next nine months with them. This coming week we will still be focusing on place value in math with a heavy emphasis on problem solving.  Math homework will be assigned Monday and Wednesday night. Please make sure your child completes his/her homework and brings it back to school because we will go over it the following morning. In science we will be discussing and demonstrating lab safety. We will also go over science tools that we will use in our investigations throughout the year. We will be taking a tour of Texas in social studies this week stopping in each of the four regions to study climate, landforms, vegetation, population, and resources. During our language arts block we will begin our grammar study and set up our writer’s notebook.  Grammar homework will be sent home on Tuesday and Thursday. We will also read an exert from Because of Winn Dixie and discuss character, setting, plot, conflict, and resolution. Please make sure your child is still reading at least 20 minutes every night. I look forward to seeing everyone during our Parent Orientation on Wednesday, August 31st at 6:00.
