We have a very exciting week ahead! In math we are going to begin our multiplication unit. It is very important for your child not only to learn their multiplication facts, but also to understand the meaning of multiplication. To go along with this unit all of fourth grade will be competing in a Multiplication Bee. Information on this bee will be sent home on Monday afternoon. To help your child be successful, please make sure he/she is practicing his/her multiplication facts EVERY night. In science we will continue to study the physical properties and states of matter. This coming week in social studies is Freedom Week. We will be discussing the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution. In writing we will begin our first personal narrative (one of the two types of essays your child will have to write for the STAAR test). In reading we are going to read “Jose! Born to Dance” and discuss author’s purpose as well as summarization. The reading/grammar homework this week will be the same format as last week. Tuesday your child will have to write sentences that include a vocabulary word, and on Thursday he/she will need to write a summary (at least 5 sentences) over the book he/she is reading.  Monday night’s math homework may require your help. Your child will be filling out a multiplication table all the way up to 12x12. We will discuss the patterns on the chart in class before I send it home. Wednesday’s homework will be multiplication practice. Don’t forget to attend the PTA meeting on Tuesday at 6:30. Have a fantastic weekend!!!
